Chances are that you haven’t heard about Shelfari.

Shelfari is another part of the Amazon group. Where Author Central will give readers more information about the author on the Amazon site, Shelfari will give more information about the book on the Amazon site. Both Author Central and Shelfari could be the difference between readers buying and moving on. You will some readers who buy books on a whim after just a few moments and others who like to make a more informed decision. You will have to decide whether including extra information is worth it for your genre of book.

I would suggest that putting this extra information can’t do any harm to your listing. Your readers (or potential readers) may not look at this information but the Amazon algorithm will and this can only have a positive effect.

As well as allowing you to give quotes, character descriptions, settings, a synopsis etc.; Shelfari allows you to go into further detail such as glossary, themes, series, awards, links to supplemental material and more.

On top of that, it allows you to add further tags, categories and similar books which no doubt lead to more associations within the Amazon Algorithm.

Overall, Shelfari is a great way to extend your listing and gain an edge. Because not a lot of people take the effort of filling in this information, I’m quite sure that Amazon and your readers will take this into account when buying. Slight edges can make all of the difference.
